Inspired by TED Talks, TAG Talks will be an annual event featuring a qualified speaker tackling a different topic that affects parents of TAG students. This inaugural program is just Sudie TAG and Travis TAG families, but we hope to expand it to other DISD TAG schools in the future.

For the 2025-26 school year, we had two engaging conversations:

AI Safety for Kids & Teens

Kids and teens are increasingly turning to AI chatbots like ChatGPT for advice and companionship. This talk, given by industry expert Holly Shipley, explains what “companion AI” is, where young people encounter it, the specific risks it poses, and the warning signs adults should watch for. We’ll cover practical steps to keep kids safe, how to set boundaries, review privacy settings and device controls, and open age-appropriate conversations that reinforce AI as a tool, not a toy or a friend. Attendees leave with a concise checklist they can use immediately, plus clear questions to guide ongoing dialogue. The goal is to make parents and teachers aware of the potential danger and equip them to help kids and teens navigate the risks as they learn how to use this powerful, important technology.

 When: Tuesday, April 7, 6:30-7:30
Where: Virtual
